A Tradition of Excellence
Our Family Heritage – Since 1836

There are businesses — and there are legacies.

The story of the Yanko family is the story of a legacy—a professional tradition passed down through the years for nearly two centuries.
It began with a master upholsterer of luxury stagecoaches in 19th-century Romania, enduring through wars, immigration, and renewal, ultimately evolving into a leading Israeli company providing advanced technical solutions for the nation's most demanding industries.

The origins of a craft: Romania, 1836

  • Asher Yanko was born in the city of Iași, Romania.
  • He mastered the upholstery craft under a German artisan, laying the foundations for a professional legacy that would span six generations.
  • At the time, upholstery was a precise artisanal craft performed using only hand tools.
For example, instead of foam padding, horsehair was used, which was integrated into the upholstery to create natural springiness and ensure the long-lasting durability of the legacy.

Second Generation: From Stagecoaches to the Emerging Automotive World

  • Yanko Yanko, the second generation, steered the company into the emerging world of automobiles—expertly crafting seat upholstery, flooring, and convertible tops to advance the family legacy
  • Alongside business growth, a fundamental value was embedded: mutual respect.
Yanko Yanko believed that respect is not derived from status or power, but is earned through conduct—a principle that remains a cornerstone of the family legacy.

His son, Asher Zalman (third generation), vividly recalled his father greeting the cleaning staff with a profound "Good morning, sir"—at a time when rigid class barriers were the norm. When questioned why a manager would address a cleaner as "sir," his response was timeless: "If you want to be treated with respect at noon—you must lead with respect in the morning." This philosophy of mutual honor remains a cornerstone of our family legacy, defining the way we conduct business to this day.

World War II: Resourcefulness, Survival, and Preservation of the Legacy

  • The business was forced to close, yet the craft itself became a lifeline. Asher Zalman, representing the third generation, demonstrated his indispensable expertise to the Germans—
a move that ultimately saved his life, his wife Betty, and their young son Jacques,
along with his siblings' families, whom he strategically presented as master professionals to ensure the survival of the family legacy.

  • Asher operated a comprehensive vehicle restoration hub, integrating upholstery, mechanics, and bodywork. He demonstrated unparalleled resourcefulness in securing materials and parts, frequently commissioning the recovery of components from the battlefield at significant personal risk—consistently proving his indispensability and cementing the resilience of the family legacy.

Dynamism and the inherent ability to adapt the craft to an ever-changing reality became a fundamental survival principle—and eventually, a core business philosophy that defines the family legacy

Starting Over: Beer Sheva, 1963

  • At the age of 51, Asher courageously rebuilt his life from the ground up in Beersheba—navigating a new country and a foreign language to lay the foundations for the next chapter of the family legacy.

  • After a brief period as an employee, Asher, alongside his son Jacques—representing the fourth generation of the dynasty—rented a modest workspace within a local garage to bravely reopen the family business and revive the legacy.

  • Through hard work, Asher acquired a Singer sewing machine—an essential asset later nicknamed "The Mother," which served as the foundation for the renewed growth of the family legacy.

The Tin Box – Asher and his son Jacques maintained a tin box hidden behind a wooden staircase, where they meticulously tucked away small savings from every job—all with the singular goal of one day acquiring their own building to secure the family legacy.

After years of dedication, Asher and Jacques finally opened the tin box and purchased their own building in the old industrial area of Beersheba. This milestone allowed them to significantly expand the business and firmly establish the family legacy in its new home

Expanding into Industry: The Evolution from Upholstery to Advanced Technical Production

  • In 1987, Arie Yanko, the fifth generation, joined the fold. After 11 years of working closely with his father and grandfather, Arie founded "Arie Yanko—Car Upholstery," seamlessly advancing the family business and its enduring legacy.

  • Under his leadership, the company’s expertise was strategically expanded into new horizons:

 – Shading nets.
– Flexible transition sleeves for process industries.
– Advanced industrial sewing solutions.

  • The most significant milestone was the strategic entry into the world of filtration—specializing in the production of high-performance filter fabrics, clean rooms, and glove boxes for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Thus, the principle of adaptation—forged through the necessities of war—evolved into a powerful business strategy that continues to drive the company and define the family legacy to this day.

The Sixth Generation: The Evolution from a Family Craft to a Limited Compan

  • In 2016, roughly 180 years after the first Yanko was born in Romania, Yuval—the sixth generation—joined the lineage, as the family business became a limited liability company:
Yanko Filtration and Industrial Sewing Ltd.

Today, under Yuval's management, the company integrates generations of traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge production technologies, all while adhering to the most stringent international standards (ISO 9001). The company’s specialized offerings include:

    • Filtration products and glove boxes for the process industries.
    • Industrial sewing of tarpaulin products and covers.
    • Shading nets.
    • Car upholstery.
    • Textile printing.

There are businesses — and there are legacies.

A craft that began with the upholstery of horse-drawn carriages in 19th-century Romania, paused for a quarter of a century, and was reborn in a foreign land thanks to a small tin box—has evolved into a leading Israeli company providing advanced solutions for the pharmaceutical, chemical, and defense industries
